I have often pondered when looking out a crossed a majestic body of water, about the marvelous displays of power and control over the forces of nature beheld at galilee. The constant reminder that any natural law or forces that seems beyond our power can be superseded by faith in the Son of God. Of all of these events, the one that is more easily overlooked is the miracle of what His grace and power was able to do with simple fisherman who so fearlessly followed a gentle command. “Come, and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17).
Its easy to see these great men as fictional characters and forget that they too were mortal with weaknesses and infirmities just as you and I. The lord looks more upon our inner natures than our outward accomplishments that so easily define those in our society today. The Lord could see who they could become. All it took was their willingness. Because they followed Him, He made of them more than they could ever make of themselves. Because they followed Him, they saved souls. They have forever since been remembered. Galilee is a symbol to me of what we can become if we but forsake our “nets” and follow Him.
